Burn One Down....

In between gay marriage, video game violence and passing amendments to support the troops, it has been quite humorous to watch Congress take up flag burning again. What pressing issues! Does anyone really care about a piece of cloth being burned? It reminds me of a favorite quote from 'A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs Court' by Mark Twain:

"You see my kind of loyalty was loyalty to one's country, not its institutions or office holders. The country is the real thing, the substantial thing; it is the thing to watch over, and care for, and be loyal to; institutions are extraneous, they are its mere clothing, and clothing can wear out, become ragged, cease to be comfortable, cease to protect the body from winter, disease and death. To be loyal to rags-that is a loyalty of unreason, it is pure animal, it belongs to monarchy, was invented by monarchy; let monarchy keep it."

Time for some new threads, let's burn these Democrat and Republican rags.

National Anthems...

I have been in a phase of listening to The National. Churning it out 8 hours straight on the ipod at work. I got to thinking, how can anyone not like this band? Their album Alligator is my hands down pick for best record of 2005. I dare say an alt-rock masterpiece!! Matt Berninger is probably one of my favorite lyricists. A bunch of little bizarre one liners and subtle phrasings. If you have 25 minutes, check out lyrics here. If you have 5 minutes, here are pieces from some of my favorites.

"All the Wine"
I'm put together beautifully
Big wet bottle in my fist, big wet rose in my teeth
I'm perfect piece of ass
Like every Californian
So tall I take over the street, with highbeams shining on my back
A wingspan unbelievable
I'm a festival, I'm a parade

And all the wine is all for me
And all the wine is all for me
And all the wine is all for me

I'm a birthday candle in a circle of black girls
God is on my side
Cuz I'm the child bride
I'm so sorry but the motorcade will have to go around me this time
Cuz God is on my side
And I'm the child bride

"Karen"
Karen, we should call your father, maybe it's just a phase
He'll know the trick to get a wayward soul to change his ways
It's a common fetish for a doting man
to ballerina on the coffee table cock in hand

"Baby, We'll Be Fine"
I wake up without warning and go flying around the house
In my sauvignon fierce, freaking out
Take a forty-five minute shower and kiss the mirror
And say, look at me

"The Geese of Beverly Road"
Oh, come, come be my waitress and serve me tonight
Serve me the sky tonight
Oh, come, come be my waitress and serve me tonight
serve me the sky with a big slice of lemon

"Mr. November"
I wish that I believed in fate
I wish I didn't sleep so late
I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders

I'm the new blue blood, I'm the great white hope
I'm the new blue blood

I won't fuck us over, I'm Mr. November
I'm Mr. November, I won't fuck us over

"Cardinal Song"
never tell the one you want that you do
save it for the deathbed
when you know you kept her wanting you

"Fashion Coat"
I'm not stupid I swear
I read the foreign news to understand my nation
you get two options in The You Estates
black city bloodbath or white country rape

I die fast in this city
Outside I die so slow

She Hates Dad Too!!!!

Just in time for a nice Fathers Day, a Bush daughter shows her love for papa by going to a Radiohead show. 'Hail To The Thief' indeed. Unfortunately, 2+2=5 was not played.

George Bush's daughter attends Radiohead gig
Thom Yorke comments on the Presidential vsist
One of George Bush's daughters attended Radiohead's show in New York, despite the band's well documented hatred for the US president.

Posting on the bands official site Thom Yorke commented that he first noticed the un-named attendee while the band were playing 'The Tourist'

"We were playing 'The Tourist' at the end of the show... and yes we did wander what the shuffling manhandling fighting was in the distance of the audience.

"Turns out it was her six bodyguards clearing the way for the first daughter's exit. and some pour soul objected at being manhandled by the secret service. I think I would have to.

"In fact, if I had known all this my objections would have been more forthright and extensive... if you know what I mean. Which is perhaps why our lot chose not to tell me who was in the building before we went on. Probably a good idea."

Yorke added that he was unsure how to react, explaining: "hmm I dont know if we should be
A. honoured
B. amused
C. bemused
D. ask if she had a valid ticket
E. object belatedly on moral grounds
F. ask again if she had a ticket and question whether this really what our gigs are about
G. don't blame the daughter for the father
H. shut up and smile
answers on a postcard"

The appearence by member of the Bush clan is suprising considering the title of Radiohead's last album 'Hail To The Thief' was a direct attack on President Bush's narrow election win.

I found my new favorite channel, The Documentary Channel (www.documentarychannel.com). I have no idea how long I have actually had it but I stumbled upon this past week. I just got done watching a doc on the Clash. I have also caught one on the Pixies, Guitar Legends, political hip hop in Colombia and one on the raid in Waco. I suggest all check this channel out!!

Who The F**** Are The Arctic Monkeys?

In British terms, quite simply the bullocks man.

I saw these fine young lads last night in the Big D. Kinda sad that they are not old enough to drink in the US, felt like an old 'wanker' watching them. I was pleasantly surprised though. Most reviews of their live show I have read are a little negative. I was very impressed. A whole lot of energy; fast, furious. They also did something great I think all one album bands should do. No encores! Play your songs, get them over with. Leave the encores for the second album tour.

True, they are over hyped. But simply for what they are, a great punkinsh alternative UK band. And I likey!!!
